This is one of my favorite activities for kindergartners in Tile Farm Classroom because it has a low floor and high ceiling, while bridging numeracy with literacy:

Below are some teacher notes to go along with this activity. Over the next few weeks we will be adding this type of resource to all of the activities in Tile Farm Classroom. Let us know if you have any feedback or suggestions!
Overview
This well-rounded activity helps young learners practice recognizing numbers and letters, reinforces phonics knowledge, develops spatial skills, while offering opportunities to practice counting in diverse ways and opening doors to more advanced math concepts. When done regularly, this also paves a path for students to build their own word and number art in Tile Farm Studio.
Estimated Time: 3-10 minutes
Best For: Individuals, Pairs
Discussion Questions and Prompts
-What letter, number, or symbol are you making?
-What sound does it make?
-How many squares are there from top to bottom?
-How many squares are there from side to side?
-How many squares are blue?
-How many squares are white?
-How many total squares are there?
-How many square edges are on the outside of the rectangle?
Reflection & Extension Ideas
-Some students want to take this a step further and build their own letters. Have your students try to write their names in Tile Farm Studio.
-Students who enjoy coloring activities like that can find a wider range of Color It problems in Tile Farm Playground.
-For high ceiling inspiration, the Tile Farm Fonts section in the Tile Farm Studio Gallery has word art patterns made by professional artists.
